Savaii League

The Savaii League, which concluded on Saturday 5th October 2013, with the presentation of prizes to the winning clubs.
The Savaii league started in early August this year by FFS to provide the 8 registered clubs in Savaii with an introductory tournament to gain a better understanding of the laws of the game, format of the competition and to familiarize them with FFS rules and regulations.
FFS CEO Sarai Bareman hailed the tournament as a great success during her key note address at the prize giving ceremony. “It is clear the people of Savaii love the sport of Football as much as we do. Today marks the end of the inaugural tournament but it is only the beginning for Football in Savaii”
The Prize giving started with an opening prayer conducted by the President of the Lalomalava football club. The prayer was followed by the keynote address. Ms Bareman in her keynote address acknowledged the contribution of the different Presidents, village councils & women’s councils, players and fans of the participating clubs for supporting the progression of football in the big island.
The Savaii league is the first of its kind and FFS are currently making plans for the Savaii National League which kicks off in January 2014. Whilst on a break from games, the FFS have planned courses & workshops to train coaches and referees to keep the momentum going and continue the development in preparation for the new tournament.
