FIFA Youth Coaching Course

The course was run by Mr. Daniel Shirley, a player development officer at OFC with the assistance of Simon Toselli, an OFC Technical mentor.
The topics of the course included long term plans for player’s development, the coaching approach, laws of the game and goal keeping.
As part of the training, the participants were required to prepare and deliver a session using the under 12 and under 15 players from the FFS Centre of Development and Centre of Excellence.
The aim of the course was to further develop the youth and grassroots coaches being used currently in FFS activities. The 20 participants were from different football backgrounds with some having represented Samoa in the National team.
The course officially finished on Friday 26th July 2013 with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
FFS CEO Sarai Bareman was very happy with the course and stated that it provided an excellent opportunity for the coaches to excel and become role models; it is also a great way for the Coaches to prepare for the start of the season in September.
She gave her appreciation to the facilitators and acknowledged FIFA’s assistance and support for the development of Football in Samoa.
Samoa is not the only country that has been given the chance host this coaching course. Other pacific countries also took part this year including American Samoa, Tonga, New Caledonia, and PNG.
