Local football community prepares for 2014/15 season

Thirty five teams from the senior divisions will be dusting off their boots and vying for a win, with an eye on the total prize pool of over $30, 000 tala.
Football Federation Samoa has made a few changes to this season’s competition including increasing the prize money and holding all games on the weekend. CEO Faumuina Michael Kapisi stated that these changes were made for the development of football in Samoa.
“It is important that we give back to the clubs so that they can further grow and develop their players and their teams”, he said.
“We also decided to make use of our numerous fields by moving all matches to be held on Saturdays which will create a festive environment and reduce transportation costs for the teams and their supporters”.
Two new teams have been added to the mix with Vaiusu SC now competing in the Women’s Premier League and Lotopa SC making their debut in the Men’s First Division. Top teams from the Men’s First Division last season Leauvaa SC and Vaitoloa SC will be progressing to the Men’s Premier League after winning the relegation round in last season’s competition.
The matches will kick off at 10am with feature games scheduled on the main field later in the afternoon. Women’s National League shield holders Vaimoso SC are up against women’s powerhouse Adidas SC at 2.40pm followed by Men’s National League cup winners Vailima Kiwi FC versing strong contenders Moaula SC at 4pm. Men’s National League shield holders and recent OFC Champions League Preliminary champions Lupe o le Soaga will play the final match of the day against Vaitoloa SC at 5.40pm.
The competition for the youth divisions will commence next year with registrations still open.
