Four teams (under-15 years) set out to make their mark in the first round of the Football Samoa National Youth League.
Moaula parents and families came out in full support of their youth team and the youngsters did not disappoint, scoring four unanswered goals in the first half against Cruz Azul.
The fired-up team went back for more after the break; the final score was a whopping 7-0 victory for Moaula United. These youngsters may be on track to emulating the success of their men’s premier team.
Pago Tunupopo, 12 years old, opened up scoring for Moaula in the 10th minute and went on to net the competition’s first hat trick.
Moataa SC boys also tasted sweet victory in their 2-0 win over Adidas SC.
Adidas had possession but it was Moataa’s ball skills and solid defence that clinched the game in their favour.
Moataa women’s team couldn’t keep the momentum going in their match against Cruz Azul, going down 11-0 to the top team.
After several missed opportunities, second-placed Adidas SC sealed a 1-0 win over third-placed Kiwi SC, with a late goal by striker Maria Tamalelagi.
In the men’s premier league, the standings table remains unchanged after some impressive wins over the weekend.
The Gosche brothers, To’o (Fereti) and Fitu, led Moaula United to their 5-1 win over Goldstar Sogi FC, with a pair of goals each. Teammate Spencer Keli chipped in with Moaula’s final goal in the 70th minute.
Cruz Azul won 4-2 over Apia Youth to match Moaula at the top of the points table, although Moaula lead by goal difference.
Kiwi SC are still third after their outstanding 9-1 win over Strickland Brothers Lepea. Kiwi Striker, Mason Hoeflick, was a goal short of a double hat trick.
