The annual national football league for Upolu clubs kick off on Friday night at the FFS fields at Tuana’imato.
20 Clubs have registered to compete in this year’s tournament. The league is divided into 4 divisions. 12 teams are confirmed to play in the men’s premier, 6 for the women’s premier, while 16 teams will play for the men’s first division and 6 for the women’s division. The winner of the Premier Men’s division will represent Samoa in the Oceania Football Confederation champion’s league 2019.
Prior to this year, the National league tournament has always had 3 divisions, however, for this year’s competition, an additional division for women has been added to increase and promote women participation and development in football.
National league tournament is one of FFS main tournament aims to nurture more local players to be part of Samoa’s National teams.
The tournament will run for 22 weeks with 20 rounds and will complete in December.
All games will be held at FFS fields at Tuana’imato on Fridays at 5pm and Saturdays at 9am. Admission is free to the public.
