The Football Federation Samoa (FFS) in collaboration with FIFA are building the capacity of its national goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches with the opening of a FIFA Goalkeeper Coaching Course today.
A total of 25 persons from local registered clubs in Upolu and Savaii, and neighboring island American Samoa are participating in this year’s FIFA Goal Keeping Coaching Course.
The four day workshop is being facilitated by FIFA Instructor and former All Whites goalkeeper James Bannatyne.
FFS Technical Director Martin Tamasese stated that the course is ideal for coaches who want to improve the performance of their goalkeepers. Learn how to develop and improve goalkeeper’s technique, plan, prepare and progressive technical practices.
The FIFA Goalkeeping Coaching Course is the third coaching education program that FFS and FIFA have offered to registered club coaches this year.
“The main purpose of doing such is to expose our local coaches to as many educational courses as we possibly can each and every year,” Tamasese added.
This is the first FIFA Goalkeeping Course held in Samoa following four previous OFC run courses in Samoa and American Samoa between 2012 and 2014.
The four-day workshop was preceded by an opening ceremony at 9am at the Football Federation Samoa National headquarters in Tuana’imato.
The FIFA Goalkeeping Coaching Course concludes on Saturday 21st October 2016 with presentation of certificates.
This course is the second official workshop to be held at the newly renovated FFS office.
