A three (3) day workshop for Women’s Football Development wrapped up in Savaii today. As the first of its kind, the OFC Women’s Football Capacity Building Workshop in Savaii brought together Twenty-seven (27) female coaches, volunteers and club managers at Football Federation Samoa (“FFS”) headquarters at Iva Lalomalava.
OFC Women’s Football Development Officer Emma Evans was delighted with the 3 days’ workshop which was successfully completed this afternoon.
“The purpose of the OFC Women’s Football Capacity Building Programme is to build the capability of women currently working or aspiring to work in football, says Evans.
The programme is conducted in 2 phases. Phase 1 of the programme began with developing the leadership skills of Women’s Football Development Officers across Oceania and training them to deliver Local MA Workshops within their own communities”
Phase 2 of the programme now sees the WFDO’s deliver the local workshops with an aim to increase the personal and professional skills of women within pacific island communities who are interested in volunteering or working in football.
This includes developing skills such as: football knowledge, confidence, decision making, project management and leadership.
All of which are critical to developing football across the pacific, but are also skills which are transferable to many areas of their lives”
Whilst the 3-day event has completed in Savaii the same program will be offered to Upolu Clubs at the end of this month.
Local instructors Maria Salamasina and Angela Pauga conducted the three days’ workshop. Women’s Football Development is another pillar of FFS key objectives which is to develop and encourage more women and girls to play footy alongside their male counterparts.
