Referring is as important as a player in not just football but in any other game as they play a crucial role in controlling and ensuring the game runs smoothly.
In Football, it i s impossible to play without the referee and their assistants. In order for someone to become a great football referee, they have to have a clear knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules and guidelines of the game. They also have to have the necessary fitness to keep up with a games speed. One would also need to be able to communicate their decisions clearly and must command respect from the players.
With this in mind, the Football Federation Samoa (FFS) with the Assistance of the FIFA Referees Assistance Program (RAP) and Oceania Football Confederation (OFC Referee Department) will conduct a five days Referee Course from the 6th – 10th May 2019 at the FFS Conference Room, Tuana’imato Complex.

The Samoa Referee Development Officer Malaetala Sofe explained the objectives of the course and that is to consolidate and improve the performance of the referees and assistant referees.
“We are working on improving the knowledge of the referees on the Laws of the game also the refereeing techniques. What is very important these days is the management of the game and players by the referees they said.
During the course the participants will also be given the opportunity to work with a Fitness Instructor on how to improve their fitness levels which will also see them take part in fitness test, which will cover fitness and endurance.”
