More than ten enthusiastic women and girls gathered at the vibrant FFS Complex Tuanaimato on Tuesday to kick off the “This Is How We Football” Program 2025. Over the next three days, from Tuesday to Thursday, the air will be filled with excitement and empowerment as participants dive into the world of football.
Leading this inspiring course is Ms. Matelita Vuakoso, the OFC Women’s Program Officer, assisted by the dedicated FFS Women’s Manager, Nadia Malifa, Women’s Coordinator, Ms. Sila Lelevaga, and Technical Manager, Ravinesh Kumar. The “This Is How We Football” initiative is dedicated to uplifting women and girls in the sport, breaking down the long-standing barriers that have kept many from pursuing their dreams on the field.
Among the twelve eager participants are a group of passionate teachers hailing from the picturesque island of Savaii. They’ve come to immerse themselves in the intricacies of football, equipped with the intent to bring back their newfound knowledge and skills to inspire their students in the classroom and on the field.
The event not only marks a significant milestone in the journey of these aspiring athletes but also introduces our newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Afioga Faumuina Margret Polly Crichton, to the audience. With a warm and encouraging presence, she spoke to the engaged participants, urging each one to seize this unique opportunity to grow and flourish in the realm of football.
Ultimately, this program is driven by a powerful mission: to tear down the historical barriers that have restricted women and girls from engaging in football, fostering not just access but a lifelong passion for the sport. This initiative stands as a testament to a dedicated commitment to nurturing the next generation of fearless female athletes.
