With only a few days away from the Oceania Football Confederation U16 Boy’s Championship (FIFA U17 World Cup Qualifier, Team Samoa is ready to take on the best teams in Oceania.
The tournament is being hosted in the Solomon Islands and will take place from 9th – 22nd September 2018. Team Samoa secured a spot in the OFC U-16 after convincing winning the qualifying stage in Tonga in July 2018.
“When we came back from Tonga, we continued with trainings. We have spent the last three weeks in New Zealand where we trained and played five friendly games with some of the best teams in Wellington, “says Head Coach Martin Tamasese.
Team Samoa’s opening match will be on the 10th September against the Fiji team at the Lawson Tama Stadium.
“All the teams in our pool are tough and it won’t be easy, but I believe the boys can perform well and will be able to compete with the teams from New Caledonia, Tahiti and Fiji. Our main goal is to reach the semi-finals” said Tamasese.
The winner and runner up of the tournament will progress to the FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup in Peru 2019. Team Samoa will depart the country on Saturday 8th September 2018 for the tournament.
