The Youth League Competition coordinated by Football Federation Samoa (FFS) kicked off this morning at the FFS fields Tuana’imato. Sixteen (16) clubs registered teams for the Under 9, 12, 15, 17 and 20 age divisions.
The record number in registered clubs for this year’s League was welcomed by the Competition Manager Papalii Laautuivanu Le Mamaea who was thrilled to have on board new clubs Vaigaga and Saoluafata. The soccer field at Tuana’imato was filled with eager and excited youngsters all geared up for a competitive and fun day of soccer. “I am very happy with the start of the League with the participation of clubs and newcomers which concurs with the completion of our Fun Football clinics in the last 12 weeks, said Mr Le Mamea.
FFS started its development programs for this year with Fun Football on Saturday s to increase awareness and participation of the sports of football within Upolu. Fun Football was held at three (3) central locations being Tuana’imato, Martist Brothers Mulivai grounds, and Samoa College fields.
With the completion of Fun Football, the League which is the start of the Year’s national competitions will run f or 12 weeks in Upolu. FFS has completed coaching courses additional to Fun Football which is a good start for this year’s League. FFS believes that continuing competitions and activities will keep the momentum going amongst football players and sets the stage well for Samoa’s preparations to host this year’s Pacific Games.
