This festival was dedicated to all the girls, ladies and women of Samoa to come together, get active, make friends, be healthy and learn to play football.
The Programme started off with an opening prayer by Reverend Brenda Sio who gave encouragement to the participants “The Lord is with you always and he will give you strength to play fair and have fun with new friends today”.
FFS CEO Sarai Bareman officially opened the festival “The women and girls of Samoa are precious. This day is dedicated to them. As a sport Football does now discriminate and the Football Federation Samoa wants to provide opportunities for every girl and women in Samoa to take part and be involved. Through football we can unite women, families, villages and communities.”
The Festival was divided into 5 different age groups, ages 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17 and 18 and up. Over 100 females were in attendance and they each participated in activities to develop their skills like passing and dribbling with the ball. This was followed by small sided games and special activities for the young ones.
The FFS also had prizes and giveaways on the day. Every registered participant had a chance to win one of many brand new pairs of Football boots and brand new Nike Football jerseys.
Snacks and fruits were also given out, exercise books with Soccer’s Stars pictures on them and Football magazines.
The main aim of the Festival was to promote the game of Football within the female gender, leading to what will hopefully be the start of girls Youth League in January 2013. The next Soccer Sisters Festival will be held on the 24th November 2012.
