The tournament runs for 11 weeks and is made up of local businesses and various Government ministries and corporations.
The main purpose of the tournament is to bring staff together outside of the workplace, to build team spirit and promote healthy life styles.
Despite the heavy rain and slippery fields, 18 enthusiastic teams turned up on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to play their first games of the tournament.
There was excitement everywhere when supporters of the companies, organisations and Government Ministries gathered around the fields to cheer for their teams.
One of the highlights of the evenings games was the 6 – 1 win by Farmer Joe, one of two new teams who played yesterday over Samoa Qualifications Authority (“SQA”).
Another interesting result was the loss by LTA who were semi finalists last year to the Ministry of Finance team with points of 2-1.
There are 38 teams registered for this year’s tournament. 12 teams are new members of the tournament; this includes BECO United (Betham & Co Ltd) Samoa Breweries Limited, Federal Pacific Group, Nesian Gear/Samoa Loko Style, ORI Flyers (Origin Energy) Team STA (Samoa Tourism Authority), Samoa Qualification Authority, SPREP, Samoa Airport Authority, CMN Company Limited, Piu Rebels (Samoa Rugby Union) Samoana International Volunteers.
This year’s tournament is sponsored by Apia Concrete Products.
Prizes will be given to the ‘Top 4 Teams’ of each pools, the best men’s and women’s goalkeeper for the ‘Golden Gloves’ and the top men’s and women’s scorers of the tournament for the ‘Golden Boots’. Alongside special prizes will be given to the team with the best uniform, the most ‘fair play’ attitude on the field. At the end, the winner of the tournament will win the trophy of the champions.
National University of Samoa have been crowned champions of the 2012 Business House edition and they will be defending their title again in this year’s tournament.
