Eleven Men’s and six Women’s teams from different clubs are participating in this competition. The Futsal competition is being played at National University of Samoa Gymnasium.
Competitions Coordinator Tala Saveaalii explained, “ We are very excited with regards to this Futsal competition and I believe it went very well last Saturday. The feedback we have been receiving from the clubs has been positive and the competition between the teams was very tight.”
In the first match of the day from Pool A, Kiwi A started off in great form to dispatch Moaula B 7-0. Lional Taylor was the player of the match by scoring six of the goals. However, Kiwi A’s joy was short lived due to a determined Moataa SC team who won 4-3 against Kiwi A. Moaula B was able to rebound from losing their first game by winning rather surprisingly 3-2 against Vaivase 3. Before that game, Vaivase 3 got off to a dream start by beating the Vaivase 1 team 7-3 in the second match of the day.
In the afternoon’s action from Pool B, Kiwi B won 5-1 against Vaivase B. Myna’s Sogi won 8-4 against Adidas in high scoring encounter. Defender Fauivi Ugapo scored 4 goals and his long-range shots provided the Adidas keeper with all sorts of problems through out the match.
The last game of the day between Mouala United A and Cruz Azul was arguably the best game of the day. Cruz Azul got off the great start by scoring two early. Moaula United A were then reduced to four players when Luki Gosche was sent of for a second bookable offence. However, Moaula United were able to score and get back into the match even with a man down and scored the equalizer just before half time. In the end; however, it was Cruz Azul who were celebrating a 4-3 win.
The women’s side of the competition kicked off with Kiwi SC managing a hard fought 2-0 win against Apia Youth; Havira Taylor scoring both goals for Kiwi.
In the match between Myna’s Sogi and Moataa SC, Myna’s Sogi raced to a 2-0 half time lead only for Moataa to score two second half goals with the match ending 2-2.
