Eleven Men’s and six Women’s teams from different clubs are participating in this competition. The Futsal competition is being played at National University of Samoa Gymnasium.
Futsal differs from the 11 a side version in that there are five players on the field and the game is played indoors. A full game of Futsal lasts for 40 minutes, with 20 minute halves.
FFS CEO Frederick Young explained, “ Futsal is defiantly coming to Samoa and we see huge potential amongst our young talented player’s that are playing the game”.
One of the games of the day saw last season’s National League champions Moaula United A play against Sogi. Mouala Untied A were the favourites going into the game; however, Sogi showed they were more than capable by leading 2-1 at half time. The second half saw the spectators treated to a very entertaining match with both teams trying to go forward to score goals. In the end; however, it was the underdogs Sogi that celebrated by winning 5-4. Dominiko Tokuma and Fauivi Ugapo both scored two goals each for Sogi.
With regards to the upcoming National League Season FFS CEO Fredrick Young also stated, “The FFS National League season is scheduled to kick off on 11 September 2010. This Futsal competition gives the clubs a good opportunity to prepare for the start of that season.”
