FFS attends OFC/FIFA Congress

Representing the Football Federation Samoa (FFS) at this important event were FFS Chairman Toetu Petana, FFS Committee Member Eddie Wilson and FFS CEO Frederick Young.
Prior to the FIFA congress the delegation from Samoa attended the Extraordinary Oceania Football Confederation Congress where OFC President Mr Reynald Temarii explained the importance of the agreement that OFC signed with UEFA in relation to the ‘Just Play’ program. With this agreement OFC will receive funding from UEFA for the Pacific Island countries to implement ‘Just Play’ which aims is to teach football to children between the ages of 6-12 in schools and villages. ‘Just Play’ will be launched in Samoa on the 21st June 2010 at the Tuanaimato Football Complex.
The FIFA congress brought together all FIFA member association countries. One of the main purposes of the congress was for FIFA and all of its member associations to discuss how best the game can develop and move forward. The participants at the congress also voted on important football related measures.
FIFA president Mr Joseph S Blatter expressed his delight at the progress that FIFA and its member associations have already made with regards to recent football development. Mr Blatter also informed the participating member’s that he is optimistic that Football will continue to grow and develop around the world in the years to come.
FFS CEO Mr Frederick Young explained that the congress was an important step for the development of the game of football in Samoa, “This congress allowed FFS to establish working partnerships and relationships with other member associations that were represented.”
Another important agenda item, which was discussed at the congress, is the currently underway FIFA World Cup, which kicked off on the 11th June 2010 in South Africa. SBC TV1 is currently screening the matches of the 2010 FIFA world cup and the final will kick of at 7.30am Samoan time on the 11th July 2010
