The three-day Coaching Course, organised by the Technical team of Samoa Football, commenced today, representing a significant opportunity for the advancement of youth coaching within the region.
Although invitations were extended to over ten clubs, only four—Lepea FC, Sogi FC, Lotopa FC, and Vaipuna FC—provided one to two representatives each for participation.
This course is specifically tailored for active club members and offers a certification that qualifies individuals as Youth Coaches for national teams.
The program is facilitated by Technical Director Michael Martinez and OFC Licensed Coach Educator Nadia Malifa, with the assistance of Women’s Coordinator Sila Lelevaga.
The curriculum encompasses a total of 24 hours, integrating both theoretical components and practical applications.
On the final day, participants will undergo assessments in which they will deliver their own coaching sessions, thereby demonstrating the skills acquired throughout the course.
During the opening remarks, the OFC Educator expressed concern regarding the limited participation, underscoring the current deficit of active youth coaches within the community.
