Friday 18th February was the last day of the FFS Introduction to Referee Certificate Course.
The course is an Introduction to Refereeing and it has been designed to assist young referees and volunteers to gain a better insight and understanding on the Laws of the Game with the hope to encourage and inspire more people to join and see that refereeing is an integral part of growing the game in the region.
FFS Technical Referee Instructor, Malae Sofe and Fitness Instructor Gerard Ionatana facilitated the three-days course which kicked off on Wednesday 16th February 2022.
Referee Instructor Sofe stated in interview with FFS media “It’s great that we were able to conduct the introduction to referee’s course in Upolu. We can see that the participants have the talent and some knowledge of the game. What they need to learn now is the basic rules on how to be a good referees.”
Malae Sofe also added that the foundation pathway to the development of young referees is to encourage their attendance to these courses by nurturing and teaching them the basic knowledge of Refereeing and understanding the Laws of the Game.
In the past years, there were no proper courses offered for beginners as most referees joins in the middle of the competition. This year FFS Referee Instructor Malae Sofe implemented this course to provide and cater for the need of new referees and to prepare for the upcoming FFS competitions.
The participants were taught the theory pertaining to the laws of the game, and later participated in practical sessions. These sessions required them to run referee matches and, in the end, the instructors were able to provide them with feedback.
