The Women’s National Team Training squad departed for Fiji last-night for a one-week camp. The camp is part of the team’s preparations for
the upcoming Nations Cup where they will be playing two friendly matches against the Fiji National Team on Monday 22nd October at 3pm with a follow up match on Thursday 25th October at 3pm, at the BA Fijian Academy.
“We will be in Fiji for a week and will be playing with the Fiji National Women’s team, which is part of a strategy to see where are at, and use it as a marker to know what we need to do to between now and the Nations cup to make sure we are ready for the first match against PNG” says Samoa Coach Nicola Demaine.”
Team Samoa’s pool include PNG, New Caledonia, and Tahiti of the of the toughest pools in the tournament but the team are determined to make a name for themselves and views this as a good challenge for the team.
It’s a tough group where they’ve got the gold medalists from the Pacific Games PNG then there are the runner ups, the New Caledonians so those will be tough experienced sides. Papua New Guinea, they were in the under 20’s World Cup in 2016, Tahiti. I believe there will be a useful side. But they do well in Tahiti with their football so they should be well organized and it’s going to be tough but I believe I have good knowledge of this sides and I think we can find a way to give them a little bit of surprise and take some points out of them and we need to win of those two games to get out of that group and that will be the plan” said Coach Demaine.
Team Samoa’s training squad includes local and oversea players. The final squad for the Nations Cup will be announced after the training camp.
