FUTSAL FESTIVAL KICK START OCTOBER GRASSROOTS ACTIVITIES

Football Federation Samoa (“FFS”) hosted the inaugural Futsal Festival on Saturday 16th October 2021 at the FFS Grounds Tuanaimato.

The idea and talks for the festival tarted in July by the Upolu Technical Development Program Initiative.

“It was not long ago that Futsal was introduced in FFS activities and through this festival we hope to develop and promote Futsal football and provide the players with a platform to showcase their talent,” says Futsal Development Officer Taumateina Tugaga.

FFS CEO Autu Andy Ripley open the festival with his remarks stating that “It is important that we (FFS) create the best environment and opportunities for the kids to develop their football skills. Kicking off with the Under 12 and Under 14 divisions, grassroots is a key stage of development and this festival is a starting point for coaches to develop futsal and support their players”.

The festival comprises of boys and girls’ divisions, where FFS technical team focused more on the participants to ensure there is optimal participation in a positive learning environment.

The festival was played 5 v 5 a-side as per the rule of FFS. Two hundred (200) players in the under 12, and under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions took part in the festival.
